Pico by Jeep: Three Plateau Lagoons and an Earthquake Simulator

The jeep goes up onto the central plateau of Pico, where three lagoons sit within a short distance of each other: the Lagoa do Capitão, still water with cedars, laurels and vineyards around it, then the Lagoa do Caiado and the Lagoa Seca. Lunch is at a local restaurant, regional and all-inclusive. The walking is short. Ten minutes at Criação Velha, then Cachorro, the Lajido de Santa Luzia, Arcos and Cabrito, with the vineyards that are UNESCO World Heritage. The last stop is the Casa dos Vulcões, a guided visit about the volcanoes of the Azores and the geodiversity they left, with the emphasis on how varied the ground here is. It includes a descent staged as a trip to the centre of the earth, and an earthquake simulator that reproduces the last two large earthquakes in the archipelago. The tour runs with a minimum of two people. The jeep waits in front of the exit door of the João Quaresma terminal at Madalena do Pico.
