Overnight Ijen from Bali via Banyumala Falls, Munduk and the Licin Rainforest
Hotel pick-up in Bali, then west to Gilimanuk for the ferry to Java, with the day spent working across the island rather than driving straight through. Wanagiri is the viewpoint for the twin lakes, Tamblingan and Buyan. Banyumala is a waterfall that falls in an unusual pattern and, because the flow is light, one you can stand under; it is also where people bring cameras, wedding photographers included. Munduk adds the rice terraces, and Ulun Danu Bratan sits on its lake. On the Java side, from Ketapang port in Banyuwangi, the road goes to the village of Licin and up through rainforest of giant ferns and old trees on the flanks of Ijen. The climb is at night. From the summit you look down into the crater at the blue fires burning under the stars, and when the first light comes the sulphur lake and everything around it open up. Breakfast is at a local restaurant at the base of the mountain before the drive back to Bali. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
