One Geothermal Morning, Five Afternoons: Wai-O-Tapu and a Rotorua Choice
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
AucklandThe morning is fixed and the afternoon is yours. Ninety minutes at Wai-O-Tapu, then lunch, and then whichever of the five Rotorua experiences you picked when you booked. Wai-O-Tapu is steaming vents, mud pools that never stop, and the Champagne Pool holding its orange rim. Lunch is included, taken at Secret Spot. The five afternoon options are the Redwoods Treewalk through the tree canopy, the Deluxe Lake Spa at the Polynesian Spa, a soak at Secret Spot Hot Tubs, a guided tour of Te Puia, or a zipline through the forest. They are pre-arranged, so the choice is made at booking rather than on the day, which is worth deciding before you check out. Cheeky Kiwi Travel keeps the groups small and the guides talking, which is what the drive is for. The road south crosses the Waikato with a coffee stop, and passes Tirau and its corrugated iron. Rotorua ends with a guided drive past the lake, the Government Gardens, Whangapipiro (Rachel Spring), the Blue Baths and the Rotorua Museum. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
