Mount Batur Sunrise by Private Jeep: Breakfast at the Viewpoint, Then the Black Lava

Sunrise on Mount Batur means being up there in the dark beforehand, and on this trip the jeep does the climbing. There is no hike at the end: the drive stops at a mountain viewpoint and the sunrise is watched from there, over a light breakfast served on the jeep rooftop. The jeep is private, with its own driver, and entrance fees are included, so nothing has to be settled on the mountain. From the viewpoint the jeep heads out across the black lava field, the ground left behind by the eruptions on the flank of the volcano. A moderate level of physical fitness is still recommended, and the trip is not suggested for pregnant travellers or for anyone with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. What goes away is the long climb in the dark that the standard Batur trek asks for. Afterwards there is the option of a stop at a café in Kintamani, at a hot spring, or somewhere else nearby.
