Lipari to Vulcano by Wooden Boat, Right Round with Lunch at Gelso
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
Aeolian IslandsSeven hours, a private wooden boat, and one island gone right round. Out of Lipari the boat runs along the south coast under the cliffs to Praia Vinci, a beach hemmed in by high rock that no road reaches. The only way to swim there is to arrive by sea. Then the Lipari stacks and the Arco degli Angeli, the arch the wind and the water cut out of the cliff, before the channel crossing to Vulcano. Vulcanello is the first thing on that side, its low craters and old lava flows running down to the water. After that the boat does the full circuit of the island. The Venus Pool, a natural lagoon shallow enough to see the bottom of. The Horse Cave, where the light comes off the water onto the rock. Pietra del Quaglietto standing out of the sea, Cala Formaggio and Cala di Mastro Minico, the beaches at Punta dell'Asino and Cannitello. Lunch is a choice, and it decides where the middle of the day goes: Vulcano Porto, where the hydrofoils come in, or a restaurant at Gelso, down at the far south end of the island. The boat is private, so the coves it anchors in are yours for as long as you stay in them. Departure can be from Porto Pignataro or Marina Corta on Lipari, or from Porto di Levante on Vulcano.
