Gran Canaria's High Peaks: Pico de las Nieves, Roque Nublo and Teror

Gran CanariaThe guides are official and born in the Canaries, and the group stays small. Pick-up and drop-off are at your address in Las Palmas. The road climbs to the high peaks by way of Teror, San Mateo and the Bandama crater, a natural monument. From up there are Roque Nublo and Bentayga, and when the weather allows it, the sea of clouds below. On Saturdays the local farm market is open, with wines, cheeses and fruit from the island. The stop at Bandama comes on the way up: a crater dated at more than 4,000 years old. Teror has the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine, and there is free time there to rest or to eat. Lunch is not included. Children under 6 cannot come.

Caldera de Bandama
Views from the top of a mountain around 11,000 years old. Below it are the first golf course built in Spain and a number of wineries.
Mercado Agricola Vega de San Mateo
Open on Saturdays only. The guide stands a taste of the fruit or the local cheese, and there is a coffee break here.
Pico De Las Nieves
The highest point on Gran Canaria, around 1,960 metres above the sea. From it you see the oldest part of the island and the canyons cut into it.
Cruz de Tejeda
The lunch stop, with the view off the high peaks.
Teror
Known for the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine, the wooden balconies and the narrow streets.
