Bandama Caldera, Wine Tasting and Vegueta: Private Half-Day Tour from Las Palmas Port
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
Gran CanariaA private half day for cruise passengers calling at Las Palmas, with pickup and drop-off included. The operator's pitch is volcanoes, wine and history, and the route takes them in that order. The first stop is the Caldera de Bandama. The crater was left when the last volcano on Gran Canaria exploded, the views run across the north of the island, and the guide has stories about what the place hid during the Second World War. Then comes wine country in the north. Old eruptions left soil that suits vines, and at a traditional winery (listed as Bodega San Juan, with its own wine museum) there is a walk through the vineyards and the museum, an explanation of how the wine is made, and local wine and cheese to taste. On Sundays the winery visit is not available, and the stop is the wine and cheese tasting only. The tour ends on foot in Vegueta, the old town of Las Palmas: its architecture, its history, and the reason it became the model for the cities built in the Americas. Bottled water and soft drinks are included. Gratuities are not. A booking takes up to 8 travelers, and guiding is available in English, Spanish or Portuguese. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.

Caldera de Bandama
First stop, the Caldera de Bandama, the crater left when the last volcano on Gran Canaria exploded. There are wide views over the north of the island, and the site keeps a few Second World War secrets of its own.
Bodega San Juan - Museo del Vino
The route carries on across the north of the island. Old eruptions left soil that suits vines, and this is where Canarian wine is made. At the winery you hear how the wine is produced, see the vineyards and the wine museum, and taste local wine and cheese. On Sundays the visit is not available and the stop is the wine and cheese tasting only.
Vegueta
The tour finishes with a walk through Vegueta, the old town of Las Palmas, taking in its best known corners. The guide covers the architecture and the history, and why this neighbourhood was the model for the cities built in the Americas. A short walk back in time in the capital of Gran Canaria.
