Etna by Quad, 90 Minutes to 2 Hours: Broom Forest and Wooded Islands in the Lava
An hour and a half to two hours on a quad, guided, across the part of Etna that has no road through it. The route crosses the eruptive fractures, then long lava fields and stretches of black volcanic sand, with the explosive craters visible in the distance. A lava flow cave is part of it. After that the track goes through the broom forest, descends lava flow channels, and passes the wooded islands: stands of trees left surrounded by petrified lava, where a flow went around them instead of over them. Between the two, the ground reads as lunar. No experience is needed for this one. The starting point is the Esagonal Bar, near the Rifugio Sapienza.
