Drive Yourself to 7 Cañadas for the Sunset and the Telescopes
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
TenerifeThe same evening as the coach version, without the coach. You drive up to the Restaurante 7 Cañadas at La Orotava yourself and arrive for 7.45 pm. The restaurant sits 2,130 metres above the sea, and the terrace is where the evening starts. When you get there, ask for Kieran, who registers your arrival. Sunset comes with a glass of chilled cava, or orange juice, above the sea of clouds, with Teide behind it at 3,718 metres. After dark the guides take over. They are Starlight-certified, they work in several languages, and they use telescopes and laser pointers to go through planets, constellations and galaxies, with the mythology and the science mixed together. This version does not include dinner, though the restaurant facilities are open to you before the tour begins.

Drive yourself to the Restaurante 7 Cañadas at La Orotava…
Drive yourself up to the Restaurante 7 Cañadas at La Orotava, arriving for 7.45 pm. The restaurant is open to you until the light starts to go. Sunset here happens above the sea of clouds: a glass of chilled cava, or orange juice, while the colour comes up and the sun drops behind Teide, the highest point in Spain at 3,718 metres.
As twilight deepens
When it gets properly dark the telescopes come out. The skies above this park are among the clearest anywhere on Earth, and the guides, who work in several languages, take the group through them: the stories older civilisations read into the constellations, the physics of what is actually up there, and the astrophotography you leave with.
