Bromo Sunrise on a Shared Jeep from Malang, with the Savannah
The way this one keeps the price down is stated plainly: the jeep is shared with other travellers and the rental is split between you. A private jeep is the other option, at the other price. Pick-up is at 1 am and the drive takes about three hours. There is no assigned viewpoint. You arrive with everybody else and pick your own spot for the sunrise. Afterwards it is an hour to the crater, and the walk up is done at whatever pace suits you. Then the sea of sand and the savannah, for photographs and for sitting still a while. On the way back there is an optional stop at the Rainbow waterfall, with the entrance ticket bought there and then. Back in Malang around midday. The official park entrance ticket is included, along with a bread box and mineral water. The meeting point is the branch office on Jalan Laksamana Martadinata 32.

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park
Pick-up by 4WD jeep at 1 am, then about three hours of driving to the Bromo national park. On arrival there is time to find a spot for the sunrise, among all the other visitors doing the same. After sunrise, an hour to the crater and the walk up at whatever pace suits you. Then the sand sea and the savannah, for photographs and for sitting still. On the way back to Malang there is an optional stop at the Rainbow waterfall, where the entrance ticket can be bought on the spot. Back in Malang city around midday.
