Bromo and Ijen in Two Days, with the Bali Ferry Ticket Paid
Two days, one night, and the two volcanoes people come to East Java for. The departure is at midnight from Malang, in a jeep or a car depending on how many of you there are, reaching Bromo for the sunrise and the crater in the morning. The night is in Bondowoso, in a local homestay or a hotel, whichever is available, and it is a short one: check-out is at midnight to be at Ijen in time. At Ijen a local trekking ranger takes over. The route goes up to the crater rim and then down inside it, which is where the blue flame is. After sunrise the walk back ends at the parking area, with a breakfast box. Then Ketapang harbour, where the driver buys the ferry ticket to Bali for you. That part is thrown in rather than charged, which is worth knowing if Bali was where you were heading next anyway.
