Borobudur Three Ways: VIP Summit Sunrise at 3am, Setumbu Hill, or No Sunrise
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
YogyakartaThree versions of the same day, and all of them include the ticket that lets you climb to the top of Borobudur. The VIP one puts you on the temple itself for the sunrise, with pick-up at 3 am. Places are limited. The second watches the sunrise from Setumbu Hill instead, leaving at 4 am, with the light arriving between two volcanoes, Merbabu and Merapi, over the mist and the terraced fields. The third skips the sunrise and starts later. Borobudur is the largest Buddhist structure on earth, standing in the Kedu Plain with active volcanoes behind it. Merapi comes next: the lava tour by jeep, on one of the most active and most dangerous volcanoes in the world. Prambanan finishes the day. Built in the ninth century, it is the largest temple compound dedicated to Shiva in Indonesia. Three temples carry the reliefs of the Ramayana and are dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma; three more are dedicated to the animals that serve them. The drivers are local to Yogyakarta. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
