Batur Sunrise in a Classic 4WD Jeep, Breakfast on the Roof at 1,365 m

The vehicle is a classic 4WD jeep, and the seat everybody wants is the roof: breakfast is eaten up there with something hot, at 1,365 m above sea level, while the sun comes up. No walking is involved in getting to that point. After sunrise the jeep goes out to the black lava formations, with the caldera around you, Lake Batur below and the cone of Batur itself in front. The black sand and the wide fields of lava are what the 1963 eruption, the last one, left behind, and the drive through Kintamani covers the biggest eruptions the volcano has had. The soak afterwards is at the Batur Natural Hot Spring in Toya Bungkah, Kintamani. There is a booking option without the hotel transfer, admission only, for anyone arriving under their own steam.
