Sólheimajökull Glacier Hike & Ice Climbing Intro - Small Group

The glacier walk comes with the option of climbing an ice wall, which is what separates this from a standard hike. No experience is needed for either part: the introduction is built for people who have never put a crampon on. Groups are capped at eight participants per glacier guide. The guides are certified specifically for glacier and climbing work, and what they talk about on the ice is the geology under it. Sólheimajökull sees fewer people than the better known stops on the south coast, which changes what a day on it feels like. Coming from Reykjavík, the drive takes in Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss on the way, and somebody else does the driving. The meeting point is the Sólheimajökull car park. Look for the yellow Arctic Adventures school bus. The glacier is about two hours from Reykjavík in good conditions, 165 km.
