Santorini Caldera Sunset on a Wooden Boat, Ammoudi to Vlychada
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
SantoriniThe boat is a traditional Greek wooden one, and the route runs one way. It leaves from Ammoudi Bay, below Oia, and ties up at Vlychada at the end, so the ride back is worth thinking about before you board. Thirassia is the first stop, a fishermen's island across the water from Oia, for swimming and snorkelling while the crew cooks on board. Then the volcano. The boat sails around it and stops at the hot springs, where the water is warmed from below and changes colour as you swim into it. Dinner is eaten in the hidden coves under the Black Mountain, with the Indian Rock on the way past. After that the route runs below the Venetian lighthouse at Akrotiri, built in the nineteenth century on the edge of the cliff and among the oldest in Greece, then close to White Beach, which can only be reached by boat, and Red Beach, whose colour comes from the iron in the soil. The sunset is the last thing, before Vlychada.
