Rinjani Summit from Sembalun in Two Days: 1,156 m to 3,726 m and Back

The summit route, compressed into two days. Day one starts at Sembalun village, 1,156 metres above sea level, and ends at the Sembalun crater rim at 2,639 metres. The camp for the night is up there. The second day begins early. From the rim it is another 1,087 metres of climbing to the top of Rinjani at 3,726 metres, then the same ground in reverse: back down to the rim, and on down to Sembalun village. Added up, that is 2,570 metres of ascent between the village and the summit, and the whole of it descended on the second day. Where the crater rim packages finish, this one camps. No rest day is built into the schedule and there is no second night. The two days hold the walk up, one night on the rim, the summit early the next morning, and the walk out.
