Private Etna Trekking from Catania: Serracozzo Cave and a Picnic
The hike is yours to choose, which is the point of booking it private: the guide fits the route to what the group can actually do rather than to a fixed programme, and the group is only you. Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe, so there is a wide range of routes to choose from. The walking follows the paths inside the Parco dell'Etna, with the Valle del Bove in view. Along the way the route enters the Grotta di Serracozzo, a lava cave you go into with a helmet and a torch, both handed over at the entrance. Inside there is no daylight, and the walls hold the shape the lava left when it drained out. Lunch is a picnic, eaten outdoors on the mountain rather than in a restaurant, which is what keeps the day up here instead of driving back down for a table. Departure is from Catania. It suits people who are happy on their feet for a full day.
