Etna on Foot with Half an Hour Inside a Lava Tube
Ratings collected by Civitatis
Piazza Paolo BorsellinoFive and a half hours in total, of which two and a half are walking and half an hour is underground. The meeting is at Piazza Paolo Borsellino in Catania, and the bus takes about an hour to reach the slope, with the ground getting rougher the whole way. Equipment is handed out before the walk starts. The route goes round secondary craters, over black lava and across sand that is entirely volcanic, through forest, past deep ravines and along old flows. Then the lava tube. Half an hour inside one of Etna's own, which is where the volcanology stops being abstract. Back to the bus and to Catania afterwards. There is an evening version that starts at 4:30 pm, which puts the walk at sunset.
