Lanzarote by Buggy: El Cuervo, La Geria and Las Grietas
Seventy kilometres (43 miles) of Lanzarote in a buggy, two hours of it, starting from Puerto del Carmen. The first stop is on foot. El Cuervo is a 40-minute walk round a crater left by the eruption that began at Timanfaya in 1730, which is the event that made most of this part of the island. Back in the buggies for La Geria, the wine country, where the vines grow in the way Lanzarote is known for. The last stop is Las Grietas, in the Tías municipality, and it is also on foot. The fissures there opened when part of the Montaña Blanca volcano collapsed, and the walls show the layers of hardened lava stacked one on another. The requirements are worth checking before booking. To drive you need to be at least 20 and to have held a category B licence for at least two years. A buggy takes up to four people, and passengers who are not driving must be at least three years old. The meeting point is Calle la Goleta, from where you are taken to the buggy parking.
