Kayaking Lake Rotomahana's Steaming Cliffs: the Only Operator Allowed on the Water
Kayaking on Lake Rotomahana is not something you can shop around for. Taiao Adventures holds the only access to paddle it, so this trip exists here and nowhere else. The lake sits inside Waimangu Volcanic Valley, the youngest geothermal system in the world, and it is where the Pink and White Terraces are thought to lie buried. Steaming cliffs run along part of the shoreline, and they belong to this lake alone. A kayak puts you at water level beside them, which is a different proposition from watching them go past from a boat deck. The trip is private, so the only people in the group are the ones you booked with. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
