Hell's Gate, All Three Parts: the Walk, the Carving House, the Mud and Sulphur Baths
Hell's Gate sells its three things separately and together. This is together. First the geothermal walk, guided or on your own, through the reserve where the ground erupts and steams. Guided departures run daily at no extra cost, with the times posted on the Hell's Gate website. Then the carving house, where you work a piece yourself rather than watch a demonstration. Then the part most people book this package for: the geothermal mud baths and the sulphur spas. Local Māori have used these waters for their healing properties for centuries, and the mud pools here are the reason Hell's Gate is known outside Rotorua at all. The whole thing takes a few hours, which is worth planning for. The walk alone is quick, but the baths are not the sort of thing anyone rushes. Cancel at least 24 hours before your booked time and the payment is returned in full.
