Fat Tire E-Bike in Volcanoes National Park: Rain or Shine, Riders Only
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
Big Island of HawaiiA guided ride through Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on fat tire e-bikes, with the guide covering the geology, the history, and the plants and animals that live only here. The bikes have pedal assist, a throttle and torque sensors, so the power arrives smoothly rather than in a lurch. Riding them means no hunting for a parking space, and you cover the park faster than the cars and far faster than anyone on foot. The route uses the same paved roads as the vehicles. Stops include the Thurston Lava Tube, 500 years old, the Kilauea volcano itself, and Volcano House, the historic hotel, where the group pulls in for the overlook behind the building. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Two conditions the operator states plainly, and both are worth taking at face value. The first: the ride goes ahead rain or shine, and rain is not grounds for a refund. This is a rainforest, and it behaves like one. The second: the tour is built for intermediate to advanced riders. Not being able to ride a 26-inch two-wheeled bike is not grounds for a refund either. It is a bike tour, and it assumes you can ride. The park usually sits between 60 and 70 °F, so dress for that rather than for the coast.
