The same mountain as the morning run, taken at the other end of the day. The climb happens through the afternoon, and the walking is timed so the final stop is at 2,000 metres with the light going. The stops on the way up: the Catania seafront with the Acitrezza stacks, the furthest front of the 1991-93 lava flow that reached Zafferana Etnea, a local farm for a tasting of honey, olive oil, pesto, wine and liqueurs, a viewpoint over the Valle del Bove, and a lava cave entered with helmets and torches provided. The trekking at the top is easy and suits anyone: a circuit of one of the craters left by the 1892 eruption, at 2,000 metres. One timing note worth checking against your plans. From November to April the departure moves to 12:00, because the sun sets earlier.
