Etna at Sunset: the 1991-93 Flow at Zafferana and a Local Tasting
An afternoon departure that puts the main sections of the volcano in the last light of the day. The route takes in the 1991-93 lava flow, the one that stopped at the gates of Zafferana Etnea, and the Valle del Bove, which is where the lava runs during an eruption. A lava flow cave is entered with helmets and torches supplied, and the walking is around the Silvestri craters at 2,000 metres, on cones inactive long enough to have grown trees. The tasting is at a producer in Zafferana: Etna honey, oil and wine, from the same slopes the day has been spent on. Pick-up and drop-off are at your accommodation or at an agreed meeting point.
