Early Santa Ana Hike for Birdsong and Forest, plus Coatepeque Lake
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
San SalvadorSanta Ana is the highest volcano in El Salvador, and this version of the walk is built around the early hour and what the early hour gets you: the forest awake, birds calling, cold air. The trail runs through the biological corridor called Apaneca-Ilamatepec, and the day is aimed at people who want to understand the place rather than only stand on top of it. What lives on the mountain, why the ground around a volcano is so fertile, and what conservation means somewhere people also make a living. The summit is the reason the tour sells, and the scenery holds up. Lake Coatepeque comes afterwards. What the operator says about the health of it is not wrong either. A long climb in open air does more for a person than a morning spent indoors.
