Batur Jeep Sunrise at 1,200 m: Lava, Black Sand or Pura Segara on the Lake

Three routes, one jeep. The sunrise point sits at 1,200 m above sea level, and after that you choose what the morning does: the Black Lava Fields, the Black Sand Desert, or Pura Segara on the shore of Lake Batur, which is the quiet option. The climb is done in the dark, in a 4WD, up the volcanic trails under the stars. From the sunrise point the light comes across Agung and Abang, with Lake Batur and the caldera below, and on a clear morning Mount Rinjani on Lombok. The lava fields are hardened rock with green growing back through it. The black sand is volcanic ash, soft underfoot, and walking on it is the closest thing to being off the planet that Bali provides. The hot springs by the lake are optional and mineral-rich, and they are where the morning ends for most people who add them. Transport is private and the route is arranged with you.
