Most Rainier day trips look at the park through a window. This one walks in it. Two hours from Seattle to the park, then a mile on foot from the Paradise visitor centre at 5,500 feet, out towards the glaciers, where the picnic happens. Then the mile back. After that the day drops through the altitudes: the viewpoints, Narada Falls, which is 168 feet and which this tour walks down to the bottom of rather than looking at from above, Christine Falls under its old stone bridge, the Reflection Lakes, and old growth forest near Longmire where some of the trees are a thousand years old. From November to June the walking becomes snowshoeing. Snowshoes and crampons are provided when the trails need them, and no previous experience is expected. Winter closes parts of the park on some days, and not every highlight is reachable then. The Reflection Lakes freeze and their road shuts. Pick-up and drop-off are in downtown Seattle, or near the Space Needle if you ask. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
