The Only Rainier Tour Allowed More Than a Mile from the Road: Ten People Max
The National Park Service restricts how far commercial groups can go from the park road. Evergreen Escapes holds the permit that lets its guides take you further, which is why its competitors run what it calls road tours. The guides are TripAdvisor Hall of Fame and describe themselves as nature educators rather than drivers. The group is capped at ten. No two departures follow the same plan. The itinerary is built on the day around what the park is doing and what the group wants, so any list of stops is an example rather than a promise. What those stops tend to be: old growth forest near Longmire, Christine Falls at the end of a short walk, Narada Falls, Myrtle Falls with the peak in view for most of the trail, the Trail of the Shadows among giant spruce and mineral springs that bubble, Twin Firs, and the Reflection Lakes. Paradise changes with the season. In summer the sub-alpine trails have wild berries on them to pick. In winter there is an introductory snowshoe trail, and the snowfall Paradise is known for, with far fewer people in it. The day is all-inclusive, and drop-off is where you were collected or somewhere nearby that suits you better. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.

Mount Rainier National Park
A walk through the old growth forest near Longmire, then waterfalls and mountain views as the road climbs.
Christine Falls Viewpoint
A short walk to the view of Christine Falls.
Narada Falls
Several waterfalls on the way up can be reached on foot. Narada is the guides' favourite.
Paradise Valley
In summer, a sub-alpine trail with wild berries to pick along it. In winter, an introductory snowshoe route through the snowfall Paradise is known for, with the quiet that comes with it.
Henry M. Jackson Visitor Center
Paradise has the visitor centre, with interpretive material on the national park.
Myrtle Falls
Myrtle Falls sits in the meadows at Paradise, at the end of an easy trail that keeps Rainier's peak in view nearly the whole way.
Reflection Lakes
A possible stop near Paradise. The Reflection Lakes are known for what they do with the mountain when the water is flat.
Longmire Museum
Longmire is the historic part of the park: the museum, mineral springs that bubble out of the ground, and trails through old growth forest. The museum is also where the souvenirs, the cocoa and the toilets are.
Trail of the Shadows
Giant old growth spruce around bubbling mineral springs, with the peak in view. A short loop, and one of the most popular walks in the park.
Twin Firs Loop Trail
Another favourite near Longmire, where the trees stand a long way over your head.
Mount Rainier
The peak is in view from many of the stops, right through the day.
