Etna and Wine Tasting from Catania: Silvestri Craters and the Enoteca dell'Etna
The walking and the wine get equal billing here, and the tasting happens at the Enoteca dell'Etna. The day runs from Catania and is operated by Etna Tribe. The route goes onto the natural paths inside the Parco dell'Etna, past the old Silvestri craters, and into a lava cave, where helmets and lamps are handed out before you go in. Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe, and the ground underfoot keeps changing with it, from soft ash to rock that will scuff a boot. There is a break partway through the day. The tasting closes it, at one of the better wineries in the area. The vines on these slopes grow on broken volcanic rock, planted higher than most Italian vineyards. It suits people who want the walking to be real walking.
