Visite de la grotte de glace de Katla au départ de Reykjavik, avec une portion du trajet de 40 minutes sur des chemins non goudronnés
Un minibus te dépose sur la côte sud, puis un super-jeep t'emmène à la grotte de glace. Les arrêts en cours de route sont Seljalandsfoss, derrière laquelle tu peux marcher en été, Skógafoss, et la plage de sable noir. Ensuite, le groupe change de véhicule. Le super-jeep emprunte un chemin accidenté pendant 40 minutes pour atteindre la grotte, et le paysage qu'il traverse est unique sur l'île. Pendant le trajet, le guide te parle de Katla : ce que ses éruptions ont détruit, et ce qu'elles ont laissé et qui ne reviendra plus. À la fin, le chauffeur-guide t'attend au point de rendez-vous à Vík pour le retour vers la région de Reykjavík.

Seljalandsfoss
One of the strongest glacier waterfalls in Iceland, with a 60-metre drop. The water falls clear of a cliff that curves into a wide cave behind it, so in summer you can walk round the back of it.
Skogafoss
Skógafoss is among the largest waterfalls in Iceland and one of the best known on the south coast. The name means forest waterfall. Another 60-metre drop (197 feet), and one of the few that can be looked at from the top as well as from below.
Vikurfjara Black Sand Beach
Reynisfjara, the black sand beach, made by repeated volcanic eruptions in the area and millions of years of the sea grinding the lava down. The basalt columns behind it take their shape from the way lava cools, and they form something like a cave, which is what most people photograph. Watch the waves here: the Atlantic arrives with force. Lunch is usually taken at the restaurant on site.
Katla Ice Cave Kerlingardalsvegur
The super-jeep leaves from here. Seatbelts on: it is 40 minutes of rough track into open country, and the ground on the way looks like the surface of the moon. The guide talks about Katla on the drive, and about the tales and the facts attached to this remote part of southern Iceland. Safety gear is handed out before the cave, along with the instructions that go with it, which are worth listening to. The last stretch is up the glacier hill to the entrance. Katla lies under the ice, and both the glacier and the cave are named after it. Afterwards the group makes its way back to the meeting point in Vík, where the driver guide is waiting for the drive back to the Reykjavík area.
