This gate opens onto the west of the city, and it is the most impressive of the seven gates of Pompeii.

Foro de Pompeya

The Civil Forum was the centre of daily life: the public buildings for administration and justice, the business quarter, the markets, and the main places of worship all faced onto it.

Basilica

Business was done here and justice administered. Five entrances lead in from the Forum, separated by tuff pillars.

Casa del Fauno

One of the larger houses in Pompeii, covering a whole block of about 3,000 square metres. Its original layout dates from the 2nd century BC.

Casa dei Vettii

One of the richest and best known houses in Pompeii, under the protection of Priapus, god of prosperity, painted to the right of the door. The owners were the brothers Aulus Vettius Restitutus and Aulus Vettius Conviva, freedmen who made their money in trade.

Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane)

The pool is on the left; on the right a colonnade leads to the men's quarters, split into the apodyterium, the changing room, with the frigidarium for cold baths, then the tepidarium for warm and the calidarium for hot.

Teatro Grande

The Grand Theatre was built into the natural slope of the hill, which formed the auditorium. The seating was divided by corridors into three areas and then into five sectors, resting on a barrel-vaulted passage.

Archeological Park of Herculaneum

The driver takes you on to the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum, where a licensed guide meets you at the main gate. Once the tickets are bought, the walk through the ruins begins.

Salone della Barca di Ercolano

One of the more recent finds: the restored remains of a boat dug out of the marina area, on the same stretch where 300 skeletons were found.

The nature trail n

Nature trail no. 5, Il Gran Cono, starts at the Piazzale, 1,000 metres above sea level, in the municipality of Ercolano at the end of the Ercolano-Vesuvio provincial road. The Piazzale doubles as the car park for anyone driving. Before the climb there is an info point of the Vesuvius National Park, with information about the protected area and maps for sale. From the Piazzale the northern side of Monte Somma is already in view, with the cognoli of Sant'Anastasia and Punta Nasone, the top of the old volcano at 1,132 metres, facing the cognoli of Ottaviano and Levante. Looking up from there, the whole of the climb ahead is visible from below.
