Reiseverlauf

Die Karte konnte nicht geladen werden. Bitte versuchen Sie es gleich erneut.

  1. Glanni Waterfall

First, Glanni, a waterfall in the quiet of the Bifrost area.

  2. Deildartunguhver Thermal Spring

Deildartunguhver has the highest flow of any hot spring in Europe: 180 litres a second, at 100 °C. The path runs close to it, and you hear the energy as much as see it. Watch your footing.

  3. Sturlureykir Horses/Visiting HorseFarm

A visit to the Sturlureykir Icelandic horse farm, where you can get as close to the horses as you like. Then home-made hot spring bread, rúgbrauð, with coffee or cold water.

  4. Snorralaug

The historic site at Reykholt, with some of the history of Iceland, and Snorralaug, a small hot spring local people have used since the twelfth century. It appears in the medieval writings of Snorri Sturluson, the poet and politician, who bathed there.

  5. Hraunfossar

Hraunfossar is a series of waterfalls spread over about 900 m. The water comes out of the Hallmundarhraun, a lava field formed around a thousand years ago by a large eruption under the Langjökull glacier. They are often called the lava waterfalls, because the rivulets stream straight out of the rock.

  6. Barnafoss

A few metres from Hraunfossar is Barnafoss, the waterfall of the children. A natural stone bridge once crossed it, and two children from a nearby farm fell to their deaths from it. Their mother had the bridge destroyed afterwards.

  7. The Cave

The Viðgelmir lava cave, just short of 1,600 metres long and one of the largest in Iceland, with colour in the rock and lava stalactites and stalagmites. The expedition inside lasts an hour and a half. The ground around the entrance shows how much force the eruption that made it had.
