Zwei der Haltestellen sind nicht Teil der meisten anderen Touren. Dazu gehören der Brúarfoss, der als der blaueste Wasserfall Islands bezeichnet wird, und der Krater Kerið. Der Kleinbus ist gegen 17 Uhr wieder im Stadtzentrum von Reykjavík. Straßenverhältnisse und das Wetter können die Reihenfolge des Programms und die Rückkehrzeit beeinflussen.

    The day starts when the guide collects you in the minibus, in the morning, for the Golden Circle.

  2. Thingvellir National Park

    Thingvellir National Park is one of the clearest places on earth to see what two moving tectonic plates do to the ground, the North American and the Eurasian. It also holds Iceland's largest natural lake, with enough fish and bird species in it that the park gets called the Galapagos of the North. The parliament was founded here in 930 AD. Thingvellir translates as Parliament Plains, which is the whole story in one word.

  3. Bruarfoss Waterfall

    Brúarfoss gets called the bluest waterfall in Iceland, and it sits well away from the routes most people take. It is small next to the other falls, and the water runs over lava rock rather than dropping far. The colour is the reason to stop: sapphire blue against the green of the moss and the black of the rock it slides over, with the surface smooth enough to hold a reflection.

  4. Gullfoss Falls

    The Golden Waterfall. Meltwater from Langjökull, the second-largest glacier in Iceland, drops into a deep canyon here. On clear days the glacier itself is visible in the distance, and the spray off the falls puts a rainbow over the canyon.

  5. Kerid Crater

    Kerið is a volcanic crater 6,500 years old, in the south of Iceland, and the colours are what it is known for. Red volcanic rock runs down a slope 270 metres round, 170 metres wide and 55 metres deep. A short walk along the rim gets you above the shallow lake at the bottom, with much of the caldera still intact. Minerals in the surrounding soil turn the water aquamarine. Green moss covers everything except the cliffs of red rock. Kerið is in the Western Volcanic Zone, the same one as the Reykjanes peninsula and the Langjökull glacier, and it is counted among the three most recognisable craters in the country.

  6. Reykjavik

    The minibus heads back to downtown Reykjavík at around 5 p.m. The order of the stops and the time of the return can both change with the roads and the weather.
